Published on 11 April 2023 at 00:08

So, this past weekend we had our second Wixoss Tournament of the month. Would you like to know how it went?

So, Lets start it out!
This weekend, once again, our usual 6 players and a ton of fun over all the rounds!!

Tournaments, as usuall went with his Normal Rounds Followed by Top Cut. Since we had 10 people we had 4 Rounds, 30 min each with 5 min extra time!

For decks we had a pretty varied lot, we had the following combination of LRIGs (Assist / Center / Assist):

1st: Yukayuka / Dr. Tamago / Machina
2nd: Madoka / Deus / Machina
3rd: Nanashi / Dr. Tamago / Mel
4th: Ange / Aya / Mel
5th: MC Lion / DJ Lovit / Ex
6th: VJ Wolf / Ril / Mikomiko

From these, of course a few would come on top, it's a tournament after all!

So, before Top Cut, our Top 4 decks where:

1st: Yukayuka / Dr. Tamago / Machina
2nd: Madoka / Deus / Machina
3rd: Nanashi / Dr. Tamago / Mel
4th: Ange / Aya / Mel

These deck then, battled between each other for 1 to come out on top!
Just so we don't go straight into decklists without much information from the players or decks we decided to reach of to Top 3 and ask some questions about their deckbuilding decisions and their matchups!

Lets start with 3rd Place!

3rd Place - AHunter - Nanashi/ Dr. Tamago / Mel

Hey!
So, recently you got 3rd Place in our Weekly Tournament and I would like to ask you a few questions about your deck and experience if you wouldn't mind!
So, for starters, i would like to know a bit more about your deck!

1- Is there a specific reason why you picked these specific LRIGs for your deck?
R: I had sleepies of all of them lol.

2- Did you decide your LRIGs or main deck first? and what where your thoughts going into the building process for this deck?
R: Lrigs first, then i tried to switch my Blue/Black tamago to give it green (and some atoms) since i had like 20 min to make the deck.

3- Are there any cards in your list that you would treat as Tech Choices for certain match-ups?
R: Well, xeno for discard mirror and ener burn.

Now lets get into the playing side!

4- What do you feel like are your best/worst match ups and why?
R: The tamago mirror felt painful with my H2O, But nanashi selection is pretty good in discard mirror. Enerburn felt pretty good, since you can charge a lot, and invisible is extremely strong against aggro. H2O also help a bit sincr you only have 1 defensive assist, having tough signis help balance things out.

5- During this tournament, what did you end up playing against and how did it go?
R: Played against tamago esper(twice!) , felt like I was losing the entire time but he thought it was a somewhat close game, so maybe it's not as bad as i think, still, lost both times.
Played against Aya bant angel (twice) lost one, won one. Pretty decent matchups, they get insane value between liwat and gaia and all those green angel that grab stuff from ener, so discarding is diffucult, but beside liwat, there's no hole. Opener in main, so after assist and pieces If i have enough cloth/servant i'm probably gonna win. The problem is basically have to get lucky with my burst to get to that state of the game. Lost one won one Also played against Love It enerburn. Felt like a good matchup : xeno enercharge a bunch, and nanashi does too. also not a whole of card draw so discard stuff is pretty efficient

And for the last question:
6-With the decks performance on this tournament, are you thinking about making any changes to it?
R: Bunch of stuff have to change, mostly thinking of either going more into atom (adding h2, bp..) or droppinf it completely, since h2o was akward to draw at time. Also play energy door instead of miasma, since i think it's better against most things (like monowhite, or enerburn).

That's all, thank you so much for answering our questions and good luck for the next Tournament!

2nd Place - Jesse - Madoka / Deus / Machina

Hey!
So, recently you got 2nd Place in our Weekly Tournament and I would like to ask you a few questions about your deck and experience if you wouldn't mind!
So, for starters, i would like to know a bit more about your deck!

1- Is there a specific reason why you picked these specific LRIGs for your deck?
R: I picked these Lrig because I like the effect on the center and I think the 2 assists compliment it quite nicely.

2- Did you decide your LRIGs or main deck first? and what where your thoughts going into the building process for this deck?
R: I decided on main deck first I wanted to play atoms which seemed fun.

3- Are there any cards in your list that you would treat as Tech Choices for certain match-ups?
R: Tech choice probably the Tyranno and He are tech choice He is not good against Tama but helpful against everything else and I just feel that tyranno is good but I do feel that there are other things you can play that will do basically the same thing.

Now lets get into the playing side!
4- What do you feel like are your best/worst match ups and why?
R:
I thing my worst match up I’d discard Tama it’s just very hard to fight against it and best match up is decks with little draw power that can’t deal with H2O.

5- During this tournament, what did you end up playing against and how did it go?
R: Let’s see I fought tamago twice, then a aya, a Ril, and I don’t remember the last deck.

And for the last question:
6- With the decks performance on this tournament, are you thinking about making any changes to it?
R: Based solely on what I fought this week I don’t think I would make any changes.

That's all, thank you so much for answering our questions and good luck for the next Tournament!

1st Place - Pigeon - Yukayuka / Dr. Tamago / Machina

Hey!
So, recently you came out on top, getting 1st Place in our Weekly Tournament, Congratulations! and I would like to ask you a few questions about your deck and experience if you wouldn't mind!
So, for starters, i would like to know a bit more about your deck!

1- Is there a specific reason why you picked these specific LRIGs for your deck?
R: Tamago is an extremely strong blue LRIG due to its easy access to freeze and discard. I liked Yukayuka and Machina because Blue, White, and Black are an extremely strong combination and the two assist lines have very some very ener efficient options between Dojaan and Smash, which allows the deck to use its ener more liberally while also making it stronger against ener denial strategies.

2- Did you decide your LRIGs or main deck first? and what where your thoughts going into the building process for this deck?
R: LRIG deck. Going into this tournament, I thought there was going to be a good amount of atom representation from my experience from previous tournaments here, and Tamago is an LRIG that is fantastic against atoms due to how impactful being able to freeze something like H2O can be. As for the main deck and the thought process behind deck building, admittedly I can take very little credit. Over the past week or two I've played against the discord user B and his Tamago deck over in the Card Games discord a good amount and found myself really liking their list. While this likely isn't their exact list (I never asked for it) I haphazardly put this one together just off of cards I remembered them running in our games the hour before the tournament and fortunately enough it seemed like it all worked out haha.

3- Are there any cards in your list that you would treat as Tech Choices for certain match-ups?
R: Not particularly, at least to me everything seemed fairly universally good. If anything, Zeno Cluster is specifically important to keep up with other discard decks, and Remember is especially strong against Ex and Deus.

Now lets get into the playing side!
4- What do you feel like are your best/worst match ups and why?
R: Tamago is a deck that excels against other control decks--on top of Tamago's freeze and discard to outgrind slower opponents, you have so much access to draw that by the time you are out of resources the game is probably already over. While my experience with this version of Tamago is limited, due to how my assist line up is more based on being ener-efficient than raw power, I could see this list being less effective against more aggressive decks than the usual Blue/Blue/Black or Mono-Blue Tamago deck is--especially those with recursion like DxM--that could potentially push through the decks defenses faster than I would be able to push through theirs.

5- During this tournament, what did you end up playing against and how did it go?
R: I played against Tamago Atoms round 1, Ril round 2, Deus Atoms round 3, Tamago Atoms again in top 4, and then Deus Atoms again in the finals, winning all my games and going 5-0. While the deck felt strong and I believe that I played well, between both my opponents in top cut not being to find servants for most of the game and the Ril I played against hitting exactly one out of seven lifebursts, I definitely had some amazing luck this tournament. Additionally, while I picked Tamago specifically to have a free matchup against Atom decks, all of my games against Atoms this weekend felt extremely close and could have easily gone the other way had my luck with factors like random discard been different. Looking forward, I'm definitely interested in refining this list and how I approach certain matchups with it.

And for the last question:
6- With the decks performance on this tournament, are you thinking about making any changes to it?
R: Just due to how much time I spent on creating this list (not a lot) there are definitely good amount of things to change. First, I'm not exactly sure what B's list is but I'm guessing at least that he isn't running 17-18 non-servant level 1s--while I enjoyed having very safe mulligans this weekend, the number I played is probably overkill and could likely be cutdown in favor of some more level 3s. Second, I'd probably cut down on at least one Anna Mirage, though I'm not sure what I would replace it with, since if I were to cut it for a non-black card I would be dangerously low on black. And lastly, while I did love playing Dojaan and Smash, I'd be interested in trying out a two/multi-stop assist instead of one of them to potentially do better against aggro.

That's all, thank you so much for answering our questions and good luck for the next Tournament!
