Weekly Wixoss Party - February 19th

Published on 11 April 2023 at 00:07

So, this past weekend we had our second Wixoss Tournament of the month. Would you like to know how it went?

So, Lets start it out!
This weekend we got back to our usual number, but even with 6 players the players game is still high and competitive!

Tournaments, as usuall went with his Normal Rounds Followed by Top Cut. Since we had 10 people we had 4 Rounds, 30 min each with 5 min extra time!

For decks we had a pretty varied lot, we had the following combination of LRIGs (Assist / Center / Assist):

1st: Yukayuka / Deus / Madoka
2nd: Madoka / Piruluk / Machina
3rd: MC Lion / Madoka / Dr. Tamago
4th: Akino / Yuzuki / Dr. Tamago
5th: Ange / Umr / Madoka
6th: MC Lion / Bang / Midoriko

From these, of course a few would come on top, it's a tournament after all!

So, before Top Cut, our Top 4 decks where:

1st: Yukayuka / Deus / Madoka
2nd: Madoka / Piruluk / Machina
3rd: MC Lion / Madoka / Dr. Tamago
4th: MC Lion / Bang / Midoriko

These deck then, battled between each other for 1 to come out on top!
Just so we don't go straight into decklists without much information from the players or decks we decided to reach of to Top 3 and ask some questions about their deckbuilding decisions and their matchups!

Lets start with 3rd Place!

3rd Place - Guy Dude - MC Lion/ Madoka / Dr. Tamago

Hey!
So, recently you got 3rd Place in our Weekly Tournament and I would like to ask you a few questions about your deck and experience if you wouldn't mind!
So, for starters, i would like to know a bit more about your deck!

1- Is there a specific reason why you picked these specific LRIGs for your deck?
R: In terms of character design, Madoka is my favourite LRIG in Wixoss. I choose Lion and Tamago as the assist LRIGs for the good synergy they have with the one of the strategy of the deck: adding cards to hand. The comic book style promos of the three look nice together as well. I have also been playing this deck ever since Madoka EX was released in set 04, with adjustments made over time, so I know the deck fairly well.

2- Did you decide your LRIGs or main deck first? and what where your thoughts going into the building process for this deck?
R:
I decided on my LRIG deck first, building it around Madoka. Built the deck around discarding the opponent's hand and building up my own. However, it does lack in damage potential so I tried to

include some cards in my colours that can open up lanes. Probably could have gone with some other colours besides blue and white for my assist LRIGs so I could gain access to more damage potential.

However, I didn't want to change up the deck too much yet, so I kept it mostly the same as it was before.

3- Are there any cards in your list that you would treat as Tech Choices for certain match-ups?
R: I could call Hamelin and Colombus tech options. Hamelin for cards like H20 and Colombus for signi with high power. However, I mainly just choose them to open up lanes for damage.

Now lets get into the playing side!

4- What do you feel like are your best/worst match ups and why?
R:
As far as I can tell, I have a bad match-up against decks that use various methods to protect their signi. Either through signi with shadow, high power, or other signi effects like Exia's and

H20's. It seems to be good against aggro decks, but I'm not too sure as I have still lost games to aggro decks. Especially to Ex decks back in the set 04 meta.

5- During this tournament, what did you end up playing against and how did it go?
R:
First I went up against a Deus deck. They managed to get 3 H20s on board by their third or fourth turn, so that went about as well as expected (I lost). Next I went up against a Yuzuki deck and

managed to eek out a win despite my ener going up in flames. The next match was against a Umr deck. I managed to win thanks to being able to pay for costs of their tax effects at key moments. Thanks

to that win, I ended up going to the top-cut. There I ended up going against a Piruluk deck and the same Yuzuki deck from before. It was a close match against the Piruluk player, but unfortunately

lost in the end. I believe I lost mainly due to them being able to put out more damage than I could deal with or deal to them. For the last match I won against the Yuzuki player by trying to

strategically manage my ener. Keeping as many non-blue cards out of my ener zone, letting them attack my life cloth when I needed ener and using as much of my ener as I could on my turn and defense

step. In the end, I ended up in 3rd place.

And for the last question:
6-With the decks performance on this tournament, are you thinking about making any changes to it?
R:
I am defiantly going to be getting replacing Rebirth Return. I never played it once during the tournament and in past games I have rarely ever played it. It's cost is hard to pay and it's even a

bit counterintuitive to my deck's strategy. I will probably end up replacing it with something like Exia for some protection or something else with potential to open up lanes for damage.

That's all, thank you so much for answering our questions and good luck for the next Tournament!

2nd Place - KhappuChinooo - Madoka / Piruluk / Machina

Hey!
So, recently you got 2nd Place in our Weekly Tournament and I would like to ask you a few questions about your deck and experience if you wouldn't mind!
So, for starters, i would like to know a bit more about your deck!

1- Is there a specific reason why you picked these specific LRIGs for your deck?
R: Piruluk is waifu, Machina and Madoka both have really good assist lines, Machina for black to be able to run M-Odem and ZrO2, and Madoka just for even more cards in hand and a good assist stop. Kinda chose break instead of clap here just bcs most people don't expect it and it really can mess with someone if they are expecting a clap instead.

2- Did you decide your LRIGs or main deck first? and what where your thoughts going into the building process for this deck?
R: Choose waifus first then put whatever fits lol, Waifu is meta!

3- Are there any cards in your list that you would treat as Tech Choices for certain match-ups?
R: Both lv2 assists could definitely be switched out for Clap or Bind. I guess you can also double down on the Hameln Step and also run a few Hamelns. Now lets get into the playing side!

Now lets get into the playing side!
4- What do you feel like are your best/worst match ups and why?
R:
Both losses were to Deus Atoms, H2O is a pain to deal with, being 13k and all. Also they have enough draw/discard power with blue in their deck to really stop piru's auto and Garden of Singularity.

5- During this tournament, what did you end up playing against and how did it go?
R: I feel like every match up was way too close and I almost get a heart attack winning by a hair lol. I only lost to Deus Atoms, where I don't really have a good way to deal with the H2Os. I did have some problems against both Deus Atoms and Madoka, both just having a lot of draw power kinda made Piru's auto a bit meh. Other 2 match ups were against Yuzuki and Bang, which went pretty ok, I will admit that I got pretty lucky with bursts tho.

And for the last question:
6- With the decks performance on this tournament, are you thinking about making any changes to it?
R: Maybe changing out the Hameln Step for more Brunos or Okatotokis would be cool, but I also kinda likes how this plays now sooo I don't really know myself. Just don't get bad luck and draw all the spells in the first few turns like I did lol.

That's all, thank you so much for answering our questions and good luck for the next Tournament!
